2005
All sessions must allow time for dialogue and discussion between presenters and participants. This is an important feature of ICSEI conferences and should be built into planning of conference sessions. All presenters are expected to bring copies of papers/handouts or circulate them immediately after the conference using email.
Session Types
- Multiple-paper sessions (60 minutes)
Multiple-paper sessions are intended to report summaries of ongoing or final research results, to provide a brief analysis of issues of policy and practice or to report an effectiveness or improvement initiative. If you submit a paper, please be aware that there will usually be no more than 15 minutes to present your paper.
- Multiple-presenter Symposia (120 minutes)
Session organisers should solicit proposals and submit them together, along with the name of a symposia chairperson. Session organizers are expected to chair the session and to facilitate discussion. The proposal should include the purpose and the rationale of the session, a description of each presentation and a statement regarding audience involvement.
- Roundtable Discussions (60 minutes)
Roundtables sessions are intended for small group-focused discussions of research in progress, practitioner experiences, school improvement initiatives and issues in school effectiveness and improvement. The proposal summary should describe the focus and purpose of the session and ways in which participants will be engaged.
- Poster Sessions (60 minutes including set up and breakdown of posters)
During poster sessions, participants peruse at will among poster stations, a format maximizing interaction between participants and presenters.
- Interactive Symposia (60 or 120 minutes)
Interactive symposia are intended to be interactive sessions where researchers, prac-titioners or policymakers present a theme without having to write a paper. The pro-posal should include the purpose and the rationale of the session, a description of the presentation, a statement regarding audience involvement and intended outcome(s).
- Network Meeting (60 or 120 minutes)
Network meetings are interactive sessions where researchers and/or practitioners and/or policymakers sharing a common interest get together to discuss and take further their work in this area. The proposal should come from the network convenor and should include the purpose and the rationale of the session. First priority will be given to ICSEI-sponsored networks.
Those putting in proposals should state whether they wish the proposal to be considered as (a) a refereed proposal or (b) a non-refereed proposal. This will be identified in the conference programme.
