ICSEI Partners

Emerald Publishing

ICSEI is delighted to announce a partnership with Emerald. Emerald Publishing is one of the world’s leading digital-first publishers, commissioning, curating and showcasing research that can make a real difference. Similar to ICSEI, Emerald is passionate about leading change. We believe this partnership will help us in striving for enhanced quality, equity, and excellence in education. By engaging in this partnership, we can further influence the quality of education by strengthening our international forum for researchers, policy makers, and practitioners. This partnership will help us in sharing and disseminating new knowledge across time zones and distances.

This partnership offers several benefits to our members:

  • Annual ICSEI/JPCC Innovation Award: Each year this award will be handed out to an outstanding contribution to the ICSEI conference that makes an innovative contribution in educational research, policy, and/or practice within the field of professional capital and community. Each year the ICSEI and JPCC appointed teams will select a winning contribution from the proposals submitted, which must be tied to a presentation at the ICSEI annual conference (where the annual event does not take place, alternative opportunities and options can be explored). The Marketing and Graphics teams at Emerald will then work directly with the recipient to produce a novel and eye-catching summary of the research. This could be an animation, cartoon, infographic, or impact report. The specific output will depend on the needs and scope of the research and the best medium to communicate this. The aim is to aid the dissemination of the research and present it in a format that will enable its dissemination to both scholarly and non-scholarly audiences. The award will also consist of a certificate and formal recognition by JPCC.
    • Eligibility Criteria: Applications for the ICSEI/JPCC Innovation Award must be based on an accepted proposal that is being presented at the ICSEI annual conference. Applications should include:
      • Original ICSEI Annual Conference Proposal and notification of acceptance
      • Product for presentation at ICSEI Conference (e.g., paper, slideshow, video, etc.)
      • Rationale of no more than 250 words explaining why this makes an innovative contribution to the field of professional capital and community
    • Selection Criteria: A panel of reviewers from JPCC and ICSEI will evaluate applications based on the following criteria:
      • Makes innovative contribution to the field of professional capital and community with significance for research, policy, and/or practice
      • Shows evidence of making substantive real-world impact
      • Demonstrates relevance for global audience
    • Applications should be sent to [email protected] with “ICSEI/JPCC Innovation Award” in the subject line. The deadline for submissions is 1st December each year.
  • Annual ICSEI sponsored special issue: This special issue will be commissioned by ICSEI and will be guest edited by selected ICSEI members on a theme that is considered to be important and relevant. Emerald will ‘unlock’ the annual ICSEI sponsored special issue for 3 months upon publication so that the articles can be accessed free for all during this period.
  • Discount Emerald membership: ICSEI individual members can opt into a 12-month online personal subscription at the discounted rate of $155 AUD (80% discount off RRP $800 AUD). Members who have any questions or would like to pursue this opportunity can contact Sabby Kaur, Content Licensing Manager at [email protected] and will need to verify their status as an ICSEI member. Gonski Institute for Education

The ICSEI business office is located at the Gonski Institute for Education at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. The Gonski Institute focusses on addressing growing inequality in Australian education as well as improving access for students to high-quality education wherever they may go to school.

Its Inaugural Director was Professor Adrian Piccoli (former NSW Minister of Education) and its Foundation Professor of Education Policy was Pasi Sahlberg, who is also a member of the ICSEI Board. Its current Director is Professor Kim Beswick who is also Head of the School of Education at UNSW, and ICSEI Company Secretary Sheridan Dudley is a Visiting Fellow in the School of Education. More information on the Gonski Institute can be found here: https://www.gie.unsw.edu.au/

We engaged in a collaboration with the Gonski Institute for multiple reasons. There is a strong alignment between the aims and mission of both organizations. Both organizations focus on addressing inequality in education and improving the quality of education. Both organizations focus on improving education through research, policy, and practice. We actively seek collaboration opportunities to enhance international educational research, school effectiveness, policy making and system change. We are going to work together to identify ways of improving education around the world, such as through the provision of professional learning services, and through organizing events to disseminate our knowledge. Together we can help support the learning of our students around the world.

ICSEI’s partnership with the GIE was officially announced at its 2019 congress in Stavanger, Norway.
